Elections every 2 years
Biennial, and by secret ballot
Our elected officers, the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, are chosen every two years. Voting takes place at the January business meeting, and the newly elected officers take office on February 1.
- Contested positions are decided by secret ballot
- Voting is open to regular members who have been members for the previous three months, and each voter is verified before getting a ballot
- Candidates in a contested race may choose a “contestor” to watch the election and the ballot count on their behalf
- Our trustees manage all secret ballot and absentee voting
Nominations
A full month to step forward
Nominations for officers, and for trustee when one is up, are accepted at the November and December business meetings. That gives members about a month to put a name forward, or their own, before the vote in January.
- To run for an officer position, you must have been a regular member for the previous six months
- To be a trustee, you must have been a regular member for the previous three years and not be a current officer
Term limits
Fresh faces, fresh ideas
Officers and trustees are limited to two consecutive terms in each office. After reaching the limit, a member may seek a different club office for a term, and then may run for the original office again.
Our three trustees serve as the club’s watchdogs. They monitor and report, mediate disputes and run the secret ballots. At each election in an odd-numbered year, a new trustee is elected to replace the longest-serving one, so leadership keeps turning over.
