About W8CRC · Who we support

ARES & ARRL

Crooked River Amateur Radio Club is proud to support emergency communications through ARES and to be an ARRL Affiliated Club.

ARES

Amateur Radio Emergency Service

ARES is made up of licensed amateur radio operators who volunteer their own equipment and skills to provide communications for public service events and emergencies. When phones, cell towers or the internet go down, ARES members step in to help local agencies, hospitals, the Red Cross and emergency management keep information moving. ARES is sponsored by the ARRL, and W8CRC is proud to support it.

  • Open to any licensed amateur with a desire to serve
  • Training, drills and nets keep members ready
  • Public service events are great practice for real emergencies

ARRL

The National Association for Amateur Radio

The ARRL is the largest membership organization for ham radio operators in the United States. Founded in 1914 by Hiram Percy Maxim, it supports the hobby with licensing help, publications like QST, contests, technical resources and advocacy to protect amateur radio frequencies. W8CRC is a proud ARRL Affiliated Club.

  • QST magazine and technical resources for members
  • Licensing classes, exams and study materials
  • Contests, awards and on-air operating events
